As i have been looking into growing and recording bacteria in petri dishes i have been led to these images. Growing bacteria will take at least 24 hours up to possibly 96 hours. This is a long time to record on a digital film camera and my girlfriend (studying film in london) tells me time lapse's are done with a special machine that takes 4 photos a second. I suppose reducing the file size. When looking into these machines i came across these photos which have used the same technology

What strikes me about them is their similarity to flowers or mushrooms in particular. They have been created from two droplets dropping on top of each other. The first droplet splashes the water up to form what looks like the stem of a plant and the second droplet hits the top of this, spreading and splashing the liquid out as if the head or flower of a plant. The liquids have of course been dyed to create the pretty colours and also allow you to see the difference between the water and the droplets.
This video explains in detail how it is all achieved.
